Frequently Asked Questions
Where are you located?
At this time we are all foster based and do not have a shelter building. We often have adoptable cats in the Adoption Center at Petsmart in Duluth. Additionally, we strive to have Adoption Events throughout the County multiple times a month. Watch our Facebook page for updates!
What is the adoption process?
The first step in the adoption process is to fill out an application. Your application will be reviewed by our adoption team, and you should hear a response within 24-72 hours. We do check vet references to ensure your current pets are altered and up-to-date on their rabies and distemper vaccinations. Once your application is approved, you will be connected with the pet’s foster family to set up a meet-and-greet. If all goes well, you will be sent adoption paperwork and payment options prior to picking up your new companion!

What vetting services are included in the adoption fee?
All cats receive their FVRCP, rabies, microchip, flea and tick prevention, and dewormer. All cats are spayed and neutered. Effective in 2025, CCAR is routinely testing for FIV, FeLV, and HW prior to adoption.
*Rabies vaccines are only given to those who are 12 weeks and 3lbs as required by veterinary partners.
Dogs receive DHPP, Bordatella, Rabies, microchip, flea and tick prevention and deworming prior to adoption. All dogs over 6 months will receive a 4dx test for tick borne illnesses. All dogs over 6 months will be fully vaccinated and altered prior to adoption. If adopting a young puppy up to 6 months, they may be scheduled for spay/neuter at the time of adoption and adopter is required to pay a $100 deposit and sign a spay/neuter contract.
*Rabies vaccinations are only given to those 16 weeks and older.
What does a spay/neuter contract entail?
Cost of spay and neuter is INCLUDED in the adoption fee. CCAR will schedule the spay/neuter appointment, but transportation to and from the appointment is the responsibility of the adopter.
Should the adopter decide to schedule spay/neuter at their own vet clinic, the adopter will cover the cost. Proof of completion of alter is required for the return of the $100 deposit.
How do I get vet records for my adopted pet?
Vaccination history for your adopted pet is included on your contract. You will receive full vaccination and vetting records for your pet via email 7-10 days after your adoption has been finalized. Your pets microchip will be registered for you at the time of adoption, and you will receive an email with information detailing how to update this in the future.
